We went to see Drama Queen's showcase yesterday.
For those of you who don't know already, Drama Queen is now just coming to the end of her final year at drama college and she and her musical theatre year are currently strutting their stuff in order to sttract the attention of possible agents.
I have to say the director has done a very good job but I think it is apparent that he is happiest with comedy. His brief was to showcase 40 students in 75 minutes - and he has put together a compilation of duets and trios interspersed with sketches which was both a credit to all the performers and entertaining for the audience.
It began with a bang - Celebration from Elegies. swiftly followed by a very amusing version of All I need is the girl from Gypsy. There followed ballads, character songs and ensemble pieces - from old favourites and brand new musicals - including two songs from The Drowsy Chaperone, soon to be in the West End after rave reviews on Broadway. The rendition of Tom Lehrer's Masochism Tango was superb and I shall never forget It's a funny thing being a hero from The Three Musketeers. It has a whole added frissance when you are sitting in the front row on the same level as the actors and three men with swords drawn are coming your way - singing!
But of course, my proudest moment was when Drama Queen and Passion Flower performed Show off from The Drowsy Chaperone. They began the song dressed in plain blouses and skirts and about half way through these are stripped off revealing the glitzy costumes I made earlier. It was stunning girls - there is no way you will go unnoticed on Monday.
Did you miss me?
Probably not
Apparently I have been busy
1. dropping Cookie in it by talking to GL about nothing really.
(His hearing must be going as he gets older because what I actually said was "Look after her for me" NOT "Look after cookie"
2. telling the boss I needed a day off work at no notice in order to deal with a minor family crisis
(making two stunning glitzy costumes for Drama Queen and Passion Flower for their Grad Showcase which I am going to see tonight - hooray)

3. Finally persuading aven more aged p that her gas cooker is an offence under the anti-terror legislation - it could explode any time - and waiting 10 days to have the new one delivered only to find it doesn't work and them waiting another fortnight to get a replacement because "we don't repair any more madam - we just exchange".
4. Coming to terms with the demise of my beloved Beemer and sending it to that great scrapyard in the sky.
(Yes one can mourn for inanimate objects - though that car was definitely a character in its own right)
OH yes, and making GL and Cookie feel carbon footprint righteous by letting them give me the Kia back.
5. And finally fighting off the cold and/or flu that laid me low for nearly two weeks but for which I could only take a single day off work.
I need a holiday - and a pay rise
and probably a new job since the glass ceiling in my company is apparently somewhere in the basement.
But all in all
Life ain't so bad

Moderately funny story - interest
Personal post with soap story line - phenomenal interest
Is a blog site really only a cyber stand up location or TV substitute for those who say they think TV is dumb?
